20,000-seater Afraha Stadium to be ready by June

Sporting activities at Afraha Stadium are expected to resume by June next year, once renovations of the first phase at the facility is complete.

The stadium will be able to accommodate 20,000 spectators from the initial 8,000 once the second phase is complete making it one of the largest stadiums after Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium.

Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui revealed that the Sh 650 million first phase upgrade is set to be complete by May 2022.

Speaking while touring the stadium for a routine inspection to assess progress of the facility yesterday, Kinyanjui said the construction was progressing well.

The governor stated that the facility being among one of the important sporting infrastructure outside Nairobi there was a need to ensure timely completion. 

Emphasising on the importance of completion timelines Kinyanjui called on the contractor to adhere to the stipulated timelines.
