6-0: Incompetent Harambee Stars fall to Mali at home, bows out of World Cup Qualifiers
The Kenya national football team Harambee stars have bowed out of the 2022 World cup qualifiers with a 6-0 aggregate at the hands of visiting Mali in Nairobi.
Mali's forward Ibrahim Kone struck in the 55th minute to effectively end Kenya’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Kenya dominated the proceedings but were unable to score with missed opportunities in the first half of the tantalising game.
Kone who scored three goals during the first leg of the qualifier scored the winning goal to send the visitors clear with 10 points accumulated.
On the other hand Uganda beat Rwanda 1-0 in Kampala and come in second with eight points and will challenge leaders Mali for a place in the next qualifying round.
According to the FIFA rules, only one group winner will proceed to the final qualifying round.
Rwanda and Kenya have since accumulated two points and a point respectively and are out of the qualifiers with two matches left to play.
Kenya arrived back in the country a fortnight ago after losing 5-0 to Mali in the first leg fixture stage however, their arrival was met with different reactions, with former FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya on record calling out for the resignation of current FKF chairman Nick Mwendwa over the disastrous loss to Mali.
"Our main problem has been changing coaches like clothes, where on earth do you change a coach in the middle of the qualifiers? It never happened during my regime and I cannot remember when Kenya suffered such a heavy loss in my regime," Nyamweya said.
The East Africans found the going rough against the West Africans in a Group E qualifier held in Agadir, Morocco.
Mathematically, Stars have confirmed their end of their quest to Qatar 2022 World Cup after their embarrassingly 6-0 aggregate loss to Mali.
