A 1969 Series II Land Rover restored by Robert Gow and Gary Farrant is among the old entries in the utility vehicle class listed in the regulations for the Africa Concours d’Elegance.

The Concours is scheduled for September 26th at the Nairobi Racecourse. It will be the 50th in the annual series organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and is the classiest event on the Kenyan motor sports calendar.

Enthusiasts like Farrant enter the Concours to compete in the 20 classes for all makes and types of cars and motorcycles.

They have the opportunity to have their machines assessed by highly experienced officials who analyse the standards of preparation and presentation of the Concours cars, SUVs, pick-ups and motorcycles.

Competitors also have the opportunity to win the overall awards and class prizes including awards for the most elegant car and bike and prizes for the highest placed machines of various makes.

The list of classes and entry forms have been published on the event’s website.

Among the participants in the class for classic utility vehicles are likely to be Mohamed Fatehdin who was the winner in 2019 with a 1947 Ford V8 pick-up, Stephen Warui with a 1968 Volkswagen Kombi and Harry Thuku who will drive a 1970 Toyota Landcruiser along the judging line in front of the Racecourse grandstands.

Judges assess the underside of each car, the exterior, the interior and boot and the engine.

Their work is carried out in front of the racecourse grandstands. Motorcycles are marked in a similar way in the nearby parade ring.
