All-African Games final medal rankings

The All-African Games concluded on Saturday, with Egypt emerging as the top-performing nation, securing a total of 191 medals across various competitions.

Among these, Egypt clinched an impressive tally of 101 gold medals, 46 silver medals, and 44 bronze medals.

Nigeria shine in All-African games

Following closely behind, Team Nigeria secured the second position on the medals table with a commendable haul of 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze medals, earned across 25 different sports disciplines.

Weightlifting proved to be Nigeria’s most successful sport, contributing significantly to their overall medal count with 16 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Athletics followed closely as Nigeria’s second most productive sport at the Games, with a total of 22 medals garnered. South Africa and Algeria secured the third and fourth positions respectively on the medals table, with Tunisia completing the top five.

Team Kenya performed admirably, finishing in the 10th position overall with a total of 37 medals. Among Kenya’s standout achievements were eight gold medals, eight silver medals, and 21 bronze medals.

Gold in All-African Games

Notable gold medalists for Kenya included Brian Komen in the 1500 meters race, Aaron Cheningwa in the Men's 800 meters, Janeth Chepngetich in the 10,000 meters, Emily Ngii in the Women's 20-kilometer Walk, Beatrice Chepkoech in the Women's 3000 meters Steeplechase, and Mary Moraa in the Women's 400 meters.

The African Games, formerly known as the All-Africa Games or the Pan African Games, are a continental multi-sport event held every four years.

Organized by the African Union (AU) in collaboration with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC), these games bring together athletes from across the African continent. The event has been instrumental in promoting sports development and fostering unity among African nations since its inception in 1965.

With the next edition of the African Games scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt, in 2027, the legacy of this prestigious sporting event continues to grow, aligning with the vision of using sports for national and continental development.
