Andere, Jobita brace for bruising battle in FKF national election
The forthcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) national elections, especially the position of National Executive Committee member to represent Nyanza region, has elicited a lot of interest and promises a fierce battle.
After the FKF Electoral Board published the final list of aspirants last week, it is now confirmed that the race for the seat will be a two-horse race pitting current office bearer Joseph Andere and long-serving Western Stima boss Laban Jobita.
Both have managed premiership clubs in the country and can be said to have a wealth of experience in football management, however, the latter is accusing the current office bearer for being inefficient thus the need for change.
As it stands now, gloves are off with the intensive campaigns underway awaiting the October 17 polls.
Jobita is promising a complete transformation in the way football business is conducted in the six counties forming the Nyanza bloc.
He is counting in his experience and goodwill to clinch the seat. “People in the region and the country in general, know who I am and what I can do.
I have enough experience in this business so I know what to do to fix the problem,” he told People Sport.
He added: “The current situation in the region is saddening since football is dying in Nyanza.
We must resurrect football in our backyard because everybody knows this is the hub for the whole country.
I have been in this game for 23 years as a player, official and manager, therefore I know where it pinches most and how to work out a solution. I have goodwill and football people in the country know my abilities.”
The former Kisumu Telkom and Kisumu Hotstars player rubbished claims that he was incumbent FKF President Nick Mwendwa as he warned that without change of guard at the Nyanza office, the standards will dwindle further.
