Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) men’s basketball team, the Stray Cats’ head coach Peter Kimani believes that “anything short of a title this year will be disappointing” for them this season.

The Stray Cats made history during the regular league season by going the entire season unbeaten, a club record of a longest winning streak, and picked up from where they left at the weekend by beating hosts Kisii Raptors 100-79 in game one of three of the ongoing Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) playoffs.

Kimani said that they are not shying away from the pressure of pushing for the league title this time around after six years of trial.

Against Raptors, Kimani’s charges charged to a century win, taking charge of the match from the onset, winning the first quarter 29-13, second quarter 23-19, third quarter 23-22 before drawing 25-25 in the fourth quarter, and as the two sides meet in game two today at Nyayo gymnasium, coach Kimani oz bullish on making it 2-0 as he seeks to sail through to the semifinals.

“We didn’t have the best defensive game on Saturday. We pride ourselves on the defensive end. We allowed so many easy baskets, luckily our offense was clicking on all cylinders.

This week have tried to fix the gaps on defense. Otherwise, we are grateful to God for a successful trip to Kisii and ladies in Mombasa,” JKUAT Basketball Clubs coach Peter Kimani told People Sport.

His counterpart coach Hillary Simba while conceding last weekend’s defeat, said they are not giving up on their fight and ambition of pushing for promotion

“We had a good game but our opponents overplayed us and were really moving well plus they seem to have more chemistry than us. We live to fight another day and as we face them again, we hope we can improve on our weekend display and her a win today,” said Kisii Raptors coach Hillary Simba.

In the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s premier league, immediate former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) kicked off their mission to reclaim their KBF men’s league title on a high after dispatching Eldonets Platinum 86-66 in game one of the playoffs played on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in Eldoret and as the two sides meet in Mombasa today, KPA coach Sammy Kiki is upbeat of another victory.
