At least 20 people have died in a series of winter storms across the United States over the past few days, local media reported on Tuesday.

As of late Tuesday, about 115 million people were in the path of the next storm, all the way from southwestern Texas to northeastern Massachusetts, the weather service said.

In Texas, more than 3 million people remained without power as of Tuesday afternoon. A woman and three children died early on Tuesday in a house fire trying to keep warm in the city of Sugar Land.

In North Carolina, at least three people were killed and 10 others injured after a tornado ripped through a seaside town on late Monday night, reported USA Today.

In southern state Tennessee, a 10-year-old boy died after falling into an ice-covered pond on Sunday during a winter storm, local authorities said. Other death causes included car crashes and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The brutal weather has also forced a number of COVID-19 vaccination sites to close and has caused delays in vaccine shipments and deliveries across the country.

Another winter storm with snow and ice was expected to hit parts of the South and Midwest on Wednesday before slamming into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Thursday, the weather service said.
