As the Covid-19 pandemic spreads, disrupting sports activities and other sectors across the globe, Sigowet Athletics Training camp coach Japheth Kemey said the scourge has shattered dreams of athletes who were preparing for major races around the world.

Kemey said there were a number of athletes who were shaping up for big races  in several countries around the globe including in Kenya when the scourge struck.

Speaking yesterday in Kericho town, Kemey observed that the scourge had dealt a blow to their careers especially for upcoming athletes some of who  would have made their debuts in various championships were it not for coronavirus outbreak.

“The virus has disrupted sports activities so to other sectors but we’re hopefully the scourge will soon  be defeated if people stick and comply with measures by the Ministry of Health aimed at keeping the virus at bay” Kemey added.

Kemey who has handled the national team is optimistic that the  Covid-19 pandemic will soon be crushed so that normalcy resumes.

He therefore urged athletes to train individually at their homes as they adhere to measures to beat the virus that has brought the world of sports to standstill  and to remain focus in their careers.

“I am advising athletes to continue training individually while observing social distance guidelines in a bid to beat the virus and to remain focus in their careers” he said.

The outbreak of the Covid-19 has disrupted plans for many athletes who were gearing up for the national trials for the would have been 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
