Kenya again rallies behind the US in World Athletics Championships
Kenya is so far among the top medal holders in the IAAF World Championship Athletics 2019, only second to the US and just like in the past.
As of last night, Kenya had four gold, two silver and two bronze medals totalling to eight. The US is the leading with 25 medals.
Interestingly, the US is the leading in all time medal table seconded by Kenya. The US has 156 gold medals and Kenya has 55. Kenya's top winning area is the long distance races.
Kenya is ahead of Jamaica, China and her neighbour Ethiopia. While Kenya prides in eight medals, Ethiopia has only five and one of them a gold medal. Apart from Uganda that has one gold, other African nation has made it to the top 20 so far.
Hellen Obiri made history for Kenya yesterday after retaining the women's 5000m title in a record of 14:26.7. Obiri gave Kenya the fourth gold. Ruth Chepngetich secured the first gold for Kenya last weekend in the women's marathon in a record of 2:32:43.
World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech won Kenya's second gold in women's 3000m steeplechase on September 30 and the third was bagged by Conseslus Kipruto.
