Kipruto, Tirop win Tuskys 10km road race

World 10,000m bronze medallists Rhonex Kipruto and world 10,000m Agnes Tirop ruled the roost during the inaugural edition of  Tuskys Great 10k Run Wareng, Eldoret town yesterday.

Tuskys Wareng cross-country was changed to a road race as organisers believed that it is more competitive and it will attract top athletes from the running counties.

On a sunny morning, Kipruto outsprinted world runners like Africa Junior cross country champion Nicholas Kimeli, Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon 10km winner Daniel Simiyu and Jacob Krop to win the title.

World U20, 10,000m Kipruto won the race timing 28.23.8, followed in distant by  Kimeli clocking 28.31.6  and Kandie Kibiwott came in third timing 28.34.2

Kipruto cited his win to good preparation and training before the race as he prepares for Olympics games next year.

“My win today is because of my training, am happy the plan worked as we had discussed with my coach Brother Colm (O’Colm),” said Kipruto.

He added that he is eying to run next year in Olympics games in Tokyo. Former world cross country champion Tirop produced stellar performance as she sprinted at the 100m mark to win the title.

Ziwa Emoo farmers 10km winner Tirop received stiff competition from former world cross country champion Irene Cheptai and 2019 First Lady Half Marathon champion Briliant Jepkorir.
