Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s Premier League will have a new champion at the end of this week.

Whether former champions Ulinzi Warriors will bag another title or Nairobi City Thunder will rally for their maiden gong, the best-of-five series that jumps off today will tell.

Going by the league’s performance in the regular season, the best two teams are going head-to-head in the final as top seeds Warriors look to end their trophy drought while Thunder, seeded second in the regular season, search for that elusive trophy.

The two sides picked 3-1 wins in their respective semi-finals, the soldiers outsmarting holders Kenya Ports Authority while Thunder clawed impressive Embakasi Youth (EMYBA), to set up the final date.

During the regular season each side got a win of the other, Thunder claiming the first leg 55-50 before Warriors carried the return match 76-49.

Warriors last won the league in 2015 with a clean sweep over United States International University -Africa (USIU-Africa).

At the time, current Warriors’ players Victor Bosire, Alvin Nyangweso and Joseph Khaemba were on the losing side and will hope to right those wrongs with their current team this week.

“This series comes down to mental and physical strength as well as squad depth. Both sides have come from energy sapping semi-finals and it will not be easy especially from Game Two since the matches will be played back-to-back,” said Warriors coach William Balozi (pictured).
