Zetech University Titans are looking to make it three wins in as many matches when they face Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) this weekend in round three of the inaugural National University Basketball League (NUBL) at Nyayo gymnasium.

Titans got their title campaign off to a winning start when they beat Strathmore University 65-54 in the opening round of the tournament. Coach Job Munene’s charges led through the match in quarters of 19-15, 12-11, 14-13 and 20-15 for the first win.

Last weekend, Titans recovered from an eight-point deficit at the break to score 41 points in the second half and pick a 66-57 win over Kenyatta University (KU). The second half rally saw Munene’s charges restrict KU to just 24 points in two quarters.

Zetech are now set to face undefeated JKUAT in what promises to be a make-or- break for either team as they look to finish in the top two in Pool B and book a slot to the semi-finals.

“We came in to the competition ranked fifth but the players did not let that affect then even as they faced teams ranked higher than us. They have, so far played very well. As we trailed against KU, my players kept calm and good shooting outside the arc got us back into the game,” said Munene.

“Against JKUAT, we are preparing for a tough match but I am counting on the players to give it their all. We have played them once in a friendly last year but that does not count as we know this is a different ball game all together. We will, however, be keen not to be complacent,” he added.

From the squad that played in last season’s Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Division One League, before losing to eventual winners University of Nairobi in the semis, only two players, Collins Ochola and Fredrick Omondi, are ineligible to play in the NUBL which has a 25-year age cap.
