Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz are no strangers and both teams will be taking their rivalry a notch higher when they clash in a potentially exciting 10th round of the FKF Premier League match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega today.

All in all, there are seven matches on the card but it would be prudent to make the encounter between table-topping K’Ogalo and third-placed Homeboyz, popularly known as Abana Abeingo, the talking point.

During their last eight meetings, Gor has prevailed four times over Homeboyz, losing twice and drawing the same number of times.

Ideally, this means that Homeboyz will be the ones under pressure to conjure up a win over the multiple Kenyan champions although Homeboyz proprietor Cleophas Shimanyula insists that records may not count in the match.

““I respect Gor Mahia but I’m confident that we can beat them fair and square.

They (Gor) have smart players but we too have the same and as such, it should be a closely contested affair.

We shall take full advantage of playing before our own fans,” offered Shimanyula who single-handedly bankrolls Homeboyz.

The match is of significant interest in that should Homeboyz chalk maximum points, they will take an overnight three-point lead in the standings with 21 points to condemn Gor and KCB sharing the third slot with 18 points apiece.

However, a win for Homeboyz against Gor may not come easyespecially given that the latter have learned their lessons and have been almost obdurate ever since they were eliminated by Congo Brazzaville side Otoho D’Oyo from the CAF Confederation Cup.

During a function where Gor and their perennial rivals AFC Leopards received kits courtesy of Betsafe, K’ogalo chief executive Raymond Oruo sounded bullish ahead of the match and indeed all the team’s remaining fixtures in the season.

“We are keen on getting our campaign back on track. They (Homeboyz) have very physical players but we are determined to give them pound for pound. We are confident, very confident to get something from the match,” said Oruo.
