NAIROBI: Betting firm BetKing will no longer be the title sponsor for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League from next season.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa disclosed yesterday that the national football administrator is searching for a title sponsor to ensure smooth running of the top tier by the time the next season begins.

“We had a five-year deal with BetKing that would have added up to Sh1.1 billion because they were to fund the league with Sh220 million for each of the five years.

The firm has decided to end the deal for their own reasons, and yet there is an exit clause in the agreement, we will sort everything amicably,” Mwendwa told People Sport.

He added: “They have been very helpful for us and their financial assistance helped us give teams grants from November last year to July.

So far they have paid us Sh140 million and they will soon pay the remaining Sh70 million before we terminate the contract as they wish.”

Mwendwa said all the top tier league teams had been getting Sh883,000 every month from the league sponsor.

Apart from BetKing, the other league sponsors currently include StarTimes and Mediamax Company Limited.
