Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Kariobangi Sharks FC has been boosted by corporate sponsorship from betting company Betway.

According to Betway Country Manager Leone Kiptum, the package of the
official sponsorship entails a rolling one-year account with a mandatory increase annually.

Also unveiled were Kariobangi Sharks jerseys which sport the Betway Logo.

Speaking during the launch of the partnership at Utalii ground in
Nairobi on Thursday, Kiptum said the gesture towards Sharks was informed by the team stemming from a less privileged community and is oriented towards nurturing talent

‘’Sharks has stemmed from a less privileged community besides the fact
that the team has shown exceptional talent and professionalism to rise
through the ranks of National Super League and earn promotion to
Kenyan Premier League,’’ said Kiptum.

He added;’’ the organization and skillset portrayed by the team served
as an attraction for us and the professionalism displayed by the management was convincing enough for us to make a decision to come in as the official sponsor, ‘’

Sharks Chairman Robert Maoga said the sponsorship will go a long way
in instilling morale amongst players especially given that the team
has not had an official facilitator in eighteen years of its
existence.

‘’We are proud to welcome Betway as a sponsor. The company is a global
brand and an ideal sports partner with leadership positions in sports
entertainment and networking,’’ said Maoga.

The club’s founder Nick Mwendwa, who is also Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, acknowledged the gesture, saying it is timely
especially this time when most of the teams in the Kenyan Premier
Leagues are struggling to survive due to lack of sponsorship.

‘The financial constraints by Sony Sugar and Chemelil Sugar which have
given walkovers in the top tier league is testament that clubs in the
country are going through rough times and for us, the sponsorship by
Betway is God-sent,’’ said Mwendwa.

Kariobangi is the tenth team in Africa to receive sponsorship from
Betway Group. Among the beneficiaries in the continent is Ashanti Gold
of Ghana.
