Bomet stadium taking shape
Construction works at the Sh258 million new Bomet Stadium in Bomet County are nearing completion.
County Chief Officer, Sports, Nicholas Kerich reveals that the stadium internal fence was currently being worked on and expected to be complete next year.
“The stadium is expected to open its gates before the end of 2020. I am upbeat of achieving the target. So, I am saying we’re on course despite limited resources,” said Kerich.
Speaking in Bomet town, Kerich said the contractor has been urged to fast- track works so that works are completed on time to pave the way for the facility to be used.
He said terraces and drainage systems have been completed so far in the 20,000 capacity stadium which is aimed at taking sports in the county to the next level.
According to Kerich, the contract runs for 36 months and it began in 2018 saying that everything that appertains to the construction works would have been finalised within the stipulated time.
“We’re out to avail sport facilities and improve the existing ones with a view of taking sports to the next level. County administration is alive to the fact that sports is a key sector in matters economy besides health benefits therefore, we are ready to support it at all costs,” said Kerich.
He encourages the youth and budding sportsmen and women to take advantage of the availability of the facilities to hone skills and to take sports as their professional careers so as for them to be successful sportsmen and women.
Kerich said the county or his department is ready to support, motivate and encourage the budding ones in a bid for them to achieve their dreams of becoming celebrated sportsmen and women by conquering the world in various sport events.
“We are exploring possibilities of setting up sport academies to help all those interested in sports to train in a bid to take sector to the next level,” he added.
The reigning 3,000m Steeplechase world champion Beatrice Chepkoech hails from Konoin Constituency in Bomet County.
