Broke Kenya football giants Gor Mahia FC have been in talks with the Confederation of African Football to release monies owed to them for appearance in the preliminary stages of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

According to Gor Mahia’s treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo, the 19-time Kenyan champions are owed millions after falling out of CAF premier club competitions early this year.

The official claims they are yet to receive remittances from the African football governing body they need to clear debts including player allowances and salaries.

Odhiambo said CAF is yet to process Sh6 million owed for reaching the second round of the Champions League.

“On March 6, CAF wrote to us seeking to have our bank details,” Odhiambo recently told a Local Television Station. She added: “We organised with our bank and sent them all the details.

They later claimed they did not get the details on time. This time around we’re doing the same through the federation hoping and for the best.”

Odhiambo, who was elected last year as treasurer, also claimed the previous office left a debt of Sh200 million in uncleared bills, something the new office holders are trying to sort.

“I have invented methods of trying to clear the bill to get the club back on its feet. No one should blame me for past mistakes.

I reduced the wage bill when I took over as one of the measures to rescue the club from collapsing.”

The K’Ogalo official also revealed that the wage bill of the club currently stands at Sh4.5 million down from Sh5.5 million since she took charge of the financial department.

Odhiambo further stated how the money they get from the sponsors is far from enough to help them run efficiently.

“Our sponsors only give us Sh55 million annually yet we need close to Sh60 million for salaries, let alone travelling, accommodation and pitch hire,” she said with the Gor Mahia players having recently downed tools due to accrued monies owed to them since February.
