A parliamentary aspirant in Bureti has raised concerns over the lack of sports facilities in the Sub-County and promised to make the place a sporting giant once elected.

Robert Korir who is passionate about sports said the sector has been dealt a huge blow due to lack of facilities denying the youth opportunities to exploit their potential in sport.

Korir who is the immediate former project manager at KenGen revealed that he intends to approach investors, companies and well-wishers to help in putting up playing grounds and a modern stadium in Bureti constituency in a bid to boost sports in the area.

Speaking at Kapsogut village, Korir disclosed he will use his connection to ensure that every ward in the constituency gets a playing ground of substance. The wards are: Cheplanget, Kapkatet, Cheboin, Tebesonik, Litein, Kisiara and Chemosot .

“Sports is one of the key sectors of the economy not only in Bureti but the entire country. So, I will work round the clock to ensure problems derailing sports are put to rest so that the sector develops for the sake of our youths”, adds Korir.

Korir stated that he will approach development partners and prominent sports personalities to assist in setting up training camps and to build a modern stadium in the constituency to help in developing sports talents for posterity.

He revealed that he will enlist the services of foreign coaches and legendary sportsmen and women from within to mentor children with sports talents besides guiding them to become great sportspeople in future.

Approach investors

“We need a stadium of international status in our constituency. The facility will even attract foreign sportsmen and women to train and host international championships. So, we will approach investors and development partners to assist us in this”, he said.

Korir added that a team will even be formed to send sportspeople for benchmarking outside the constituency in a bid to take sports to the next level. The engineer suggested that to begin with, he will have all local football teams registered so that they can start participating in national league matches.

“Our youths also love football and therefore, I am out to support them in a bid to lift the standards of the game”, Korir said

Korir promised he will ensure all sports such as athletics, football and the entire sports disciplines are improved if he gets the support.
