Charles Okere top cla*s as 18 coaches earn CAF A Coaching Licenses

Tusker assistant coach Charles Okere emerged as the top performer in his class among the 18 coaches out of the initial 25 who successfully completed the rigorous six-month CAF A License course.

Jackline Juma, Head Coach of the U15 girls’ national team, demonstrated her prowess by securing the second position in the class.

Noteworthy performances were also delivered by Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba, Posta Rangers Assistant Coach Bernard Kawinzi, and former Ulinzi Stars midfielder Stephen Ocholla, all ranking among the top 10 in the class.

However, five coaches fell short of meeting the required pass mark for the award of their licenses, while two others failed to meet the class attendance threshold mandated by CAF.

Consequently, in accordance with CAF policies, these coaches will be granted a six-month grace period to fulfill assignments and other practical sessions while awaiting a retake of their final examinations.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa extended his heartfelt congratulations to the successful coaches, acknowledging their dedication and perseverance in elevating their skills and enriching the football landscape in Kenya.

He emphasized the federation's commitment to fostering football development at all levels, highlighting the investment in capacity building for coaches as a significant milestone in advancing Kenyan football.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the coaches who have successfully completed this first of its kind CAF A class. Your dedication and perseverance has not only elevated your own skills but also enriched the football landscape in Kenya,“ FKF President Nick Mwendwa stated.

“As a Federation, we remain committed to the development of football at all levels. Our investment in the capacity building of coaches across all levels is not just a milestone; it’s a testament to our dedication to the growth and success of Kenyan football,” he added.

The comprehensive course curriculum encompassed a range of practical and theoretical sessions. Practical sessions covered vital aspects such as organization, session management, performance improvement, communication, and match analysis, contributing to a cumulative score out of 700. Written practical exams were also administered to assess coaches' understanding.

Theoretical sessions delved into themed coaching, written exams, and proof of ability (portfolio), evaluated out of 300.

How Charles Okere were tested

Coaches were tested on their knowledge of the Laws of the game, with presentations and oral examinations further assessing their skills and methodology.

Facilitated by specialized professionals, the course comprised 17 modules covering diverse topics including physiology anatomy, doping, leadership, and management. This rigorous training regimen reflects a concerted effort to equip coaches with the necessary tools and knowledge to drive the growth and success of Kenyan football.
