Down to the wire as Serani defend title against Kinondo
Mombasa County football champions Serani Secondary School defended their Coast Region title through a 4-3 penalty shootout against their Kwale counterparts Kinondo Secondary at the Shanzu Teachers Training College grounds.
Hamisi Nyale who emerged as the top scorer with six goals in the two days tourney put the Swaleh Abdallah Sunda-coached side ahead in the 30th minute before Ali Jawa forced the game into penalty with an equaliser with 10 minutes to go.
“We defeated them in the preliminary and of course we knew they could come with different strategies and we thank God we are through,” said Sunda.
In basketball former national basketball Champions Mombasa Baptist secondary school fell against Dr Aggrey Secondary School of Taita Taveta in the just concluded secondary school term two ball games.
The Mombasa champions were the favourites for having won the title several times, but their party was ruined by Dr Aggrey of Taita Taveta, suffering an 81-23 points defeat.
In the semi-finals, Dr Aggrey humiliated Mpeketoni Secondary by 54-21 while Baptist beat Kaya Tiwi 29-19 baskets during the finals held at the Shanzu Teachers Training College and Shimo la Tewa Secondary School.
