Eliud Kipchoge’s racing vest auctioned for Ksh242k

The vest of marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge was auctioned for Ksh242,471 on an international auction platform.

On September 25, Kipchoge, in collaboration with Catawiki, placed iconic objects used by the marathon runner throughout his career in an effort to raise funds for his Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, an organization that supports education and environmental conversation .

Among the items up for auction is her NN Running Team 2018 tank top, Catawiki claiming that the tank top attracted the highest bid, with the winner being Ksh242,471 (€ 1,893).

Another item that received a huge auction is its 2018 issue – BIB signed after the BMW Berlin Marathon. As simple as it sounds, it received a winning bid of Ksh140,897 (€ 1,100).

The Nike- ZoomX Vaporfly Next% 2 running shoes from Kipchoge were sold at Ksh42393 (331 €). The shoe was signed with a personal message from Kipchoge. The space running shoes were inspired by the model most loved by runners around the world. Improved comfort and breathability thanks to its redesigned upper.

His other running shoes, Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%, received a winning bid of Ksh53,797 (€ 420). In addition, 2 bottles of racing water used by Kipchoge were auctioned, both receiving a winning bid of Ksh35,864 (€ 280). One of the Maurten water bottles that Eliud had on the world record weekend was also auctioned for a different price, receiving a winning bid of 44,831 Ksh.

Kipchoge’s racing watch, inspired by the Kenyan flag, was also among the items up for auction. The person who managed to leave with the signed special watch had to part with Ksh48,673.

The 2018 World Records Book created to tell the story of Kipchoge was also among the iconic items up for grabs and the winner placed a bid of Ksh40,988 (€ 320). Another book, The 2018 NN Running Team book, the year Kipchoge broke the world record in Berlin was also sold off at Ksh18,572 (€ 145).

These were among the items that Kipchoge worked with Catawiki and placed on their website over a 2 week period to raise funds for his organization. The official auction for all items closed on October 3. However, Catawiki did not disclose the total amount of money that will be channeled to the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation.

“Catawiki is hosting a charity auction in partnership with the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, an organization supporting children’s education and environmentalism in Eliud’s homeland of Kenya,” they wrote on their organization’s website.

“All of the special items up for auction represent iconic moments in Eliud’s running career, including a signed bib from the 2018 Berlin Marathon which broke a world record,” the company added.

The two-time Olympic champion who launched his foundation on September 9 expressed optimism that the foundation will benefit children in society.

“I am very grateful to launch my Eliud Kipchoge Foundation today. My mission is to give learners all over the world access to knowledge and education, ” Kipchoge said.
