Kenyan International Eric Johana joins Thai League one club

Kenyan International Eric Johana Omondi has joined Thai League side Muangthong United ahead of the new season.

Muangthong United unveiled the midfielder on Friday, confirming he had penned down a one-year deal with an extension option. The former SK Beverain midfielder will don jersey 19 during his stay at the Thunder Dome Stadium.

Eric Johana's thoughts

The former Mathare United player believes he made the right decision and feels honoured to be part of the side.

"When Muangthong United expressed interest, I looked into it, and the history, the great supporters, the strong squad and the coach were all fantastic. Everything about this seemed correct, and I am pleased with my decision," Johana stated.

"It's been an honour to play here. I've had the privilege to watch Muangthong United for some time. It's a fantastic team. There's a fantastic coach and a tremendous fan base. It's a crucial task, and I made a quick choice to come and play here," he added.

Eric Johana's goals

"Muangthong finished fourth, and as a player, I am here to assist the squad in moving forward. This season, we have three trophies to contend for, and we can win them all. One of my goals this season is to participate as much as possible with the team, improve my speed with teammates, and ideally help the team to a better finish or win a trophy."

"The supporters are the finest in Thai League, and they sing and encourage players to win games for the entire 90 minutes. This is incredible, and I hope to see you in the stands." Johana concluded.

The Club's Director of Football Ronnarit Suewaja said the club was happy to acquire the services of Johana terming him as a versatile player able to play in different positions on the pitch.

"It's a fantastic day for Muangthong to welcome Eric. We feel he is the player we've been looking for. Eric's experience in Europe, as well as with the Kenyan national team, has shaped him into a versatile and flexible player capable of filling a variety of roles on the field," he said during the unveiling.

Confidence in Eric Johana

Suewaja is also confident that the attacker can propel the side to greater heights as they seek to build a team that will play exciting football.

"We wish to build a team that can create exciting and beautiful football. He comes to us at 27 years old and we believe will help the club to succeed," he added.

"The signing of the player proves that our philosophy is to be a team that plays excitingly and plays beautiful football. At his age, he is perfect to face new challenges with us. I am confident that he will bring success to the club," he concluded.

Eric Johana's profile

Johana can play as a 10 and on the wings. He started off his career at Mathare United and has played Wasland-Bevern in Belgium,DSIF (2017), IF Brommapogcarna (2018-19) and Jon Koppings Sodra and SK Beveren.

He has made 23 appearances for Harambee Stars scoring four goals. His first national team appearance was against Ethiopia.

He becomes the fourth signing at Muangthong United club. Other new signings are Eknit Panya, Hong Song-wook and Ronan Pelijman.

Muangthong United Football Club is a Thai professional football club based in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province. The club plays in the Thai League One. Muangthong has participated in the Thai Premier League since 2009 after having won the Thai Division 1 League title in 2008
