Fast improving Okwiri knocks out Columbia’s Munoz
Kenya's Rayton Okwiri beat Fidel Munoz to submission in the 2nd round of 8 rounds non-title fight in the USA.
The Africa's Middle weight champion was in a no nonsense mood, with the referee having to step in for the punch drunk Munoz after he tripped thrice.
Through his knockout win in Portland Mains, America Okwiri was able to stretch his unbeaten record to seven fights – five knockouts and one draw.
Okwiri, who has never been beaten since he joined the paid ranks, boasts a record six wins and a draw from his seven professional fights.
Heading to this fight, Okwiri maintained he was not bothered with the record of the 33-year-old Columbian that stands at 39 wins, 25 loses and a draw from his 65 fights.
Okwiri, left Kenya for the US in May, has been undergoing intensive training in Boston, and he will also take part in a series of fights lined up for him and East Africa by promoter Michael Reyes of Reyes Boxing International.
Before heading to the US, Okwiri would travel to Cancun in Mexico for intensive physical conditioning training with Namibia's Walter Kautondokwa before going to Boston for the sparring camp.
According to Okwiri he prefers training abroad because of the tough sparring partners unlike in East Africa where he lacks serious competition.
The Kenyan showed no signs of rustiness, having last fought in December 2019 when he successfully defended his Africa Boxing Union middleweight title against Augustine Matata from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A sergeant with Kenya Prisons Service, Okwiri said he dedicated the victory to the Commissioner-General of Prisons Wycliffe Ogallo CBS and the entire staff.
