FC Talanta in bullish mood with eight matches to go before end of National Super League
FC Talanta have taken control of the Betika National Super League title chase after a good run with 60 points in the bag as they target promotion to the premiership in the coming season.
Following their tight 1-0 win Tuesday over Nairobi Stima FC at Camp Toyoyo, Ken Kenyatta’s charges are in a bullish mood and, with eight matches to complete this season’s fixtures, there are indications that they look like title contenders.
However, coach Kenyatta has warned his players against any laxity in the remaining matches, arguing it would be dangerous.
“This season is not over and as someone who has been in a similar state before,I know what I am talking about.
Yes, we are in good form but all those matches have been tough for us and the coming ones will not be straightforward as well.
Of course being at the top means you can dictate the pace but for us, we have to assume nothing is done,” said the veteran tactician who was formerly with the now defunct Ushuru FC.
In 30 matches played, Talanta have won 18 with a healthy goal difference of 23.
Meanwhile, Fortune Sacco FC on second are following closely albeit having played a match extra and with 54 points in the bag.
On Wednesday, the Kirinyaga-based side thumped Shabana FC 3-1 at Kianyaga Stadium to continue their good run especially in the second leg of the current season.
Coach Nicodemus Omasete believes the key is consistency and teamwork. “We try to improve as a team and I thank my players for getting it right.
We still have an opportunity to go up the table but we have to take one match at a time.
It is important that we keep our heads down and work harder. For me consistency has been key and I want to see more of that,” offered the youthful tactician.
Kenya Police who for a long time had been top have seen their run affected by inconsistencies.
However since John Bobby Ogola took over reins last month, he has notched three wins with the latest being a 4-0 walloping of bottom-placed Soy United on Wednesday in Eldoret.
As such, Police are now third with 49 points with a chance to get to the playoffs.
Soy have 24 points and look destined for the chop after a woeful maiden campaign alongside Kisumu Hot Stars and Coast Stima FC who are on 27 points and 29 points respectively.
