Kenya’s women tennis team are hard at work ahead of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Billie Jean Cup group 2 qualifiers to be held in the country next month at the Nairobi Club.

The World Cup of Nations Event will see 12 nations assemble in the country in a bid to get the crucial ticket promotion to Group 2 where the crème de la crème of players will be waiting.

It has been 28 years since Kenya hosted the event and their intention this time is nothing but qualification. In 1995, Kenya failed to improve their honours of hosting the event and thus did not make the cut for Group 2.

According to Captain Francis Mwangi, the time is nigh.

“We are hosting the Championship, and obviously, under pressure to qualify. Preparations have been going on well and so far so good. The girls are showing a positive attitude and that is commendable. The job at hand, for next month, is going to be difficult but it is a good test so we must be ready. We certainly are hoping for better fortunes this time round so we can qualify for Group 2 stage,” he said.
