FKF-PL/NSL play-off to proceed, SDT rules
The Sports Disputes Tribunal has lifted an injunction it had placed on the FKF PL/NSL play-off between Wazito FC and Murang'a Seal that was to take place last weekend.
In a ruling made on Tuesday afternoon, the Tribunal gave a nod for the fixture to go ahead and now the FKF Transition Committee has set Thursday August 4 as the date for the first leg of the playoff at the Nyayo Stadium with the return leg set for Sunday August 7 in Murangá.
The Tribunal gave the go ahead of the fixture as scheduled pending a determination of a case Muhoroni Youth had filed challenging the inclusion of Zoo FC in the NSL for the 2021/2022 season citing a FIFA ruling against the Kericho based team over match-fixing. The FKF Transition Committee had scheduled the first leg play-off on July 30,2022 and the second leg on August 3,2022. The Leagues & Competitions Committee is engaging the clubs in feasible dates for the play-off.
In a letter sent to both clubs, the FKF Transition Committee Head of Secretariat Linda Oguttuh confirmed the latest development, putting an end to the stalemate that was brought up on Thursday last week.
The letter read, Reference is made to the ruling by the Sports Dispute Tribunal allowing the Play-offs to proceed. In this regard, we wish to inform you that the play-off matches have been rescheduled as follows;
First Leg: Wazito FC vs Murang’a Seal FC – Thursday, 4th August 2022
Second Leg: Murang’a Seal vs Wazito – Sunday, 7th August 2022.
The first leg match will be hosted at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi with the return leg scheduled to be hosted at St. Sebastian Park in Muranga. Both matches will kick off at 3pm.”
Wazito FC finished third from bottom in last season’s FKF Premier League and will face out with Seals who finished third in the National Super League (NSL).
