Football Kenya Federation goes to polls finally

At least 972 delegates are expected to vote in new county officials to run football matters in the respective counties for the next four years, when the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) polls get underway tomorrow at different venues.
Only 21 counties out of the 45 that were termed to have had active football in the last three years, will take part in the polls, since officials in the other 25 counties have all gone in unopposed.
Positions being vied for are for the chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, women representatives and youth representatives.
In Turkana, electors will pick the Secretary as all other officials in the county are unopposed, the same situation as Siaya, while in Trans Nzoia, the polls will be for the position of Secretary and Women Representative.
According to the final voters list published by the FKF Electoral Board, Nairobi East has the highest number of voters at 98 while Kirinyaga has the least number of voters who stand at two.
Yesterday, the board conducted a training for election officials ahead of the polls.
The officials were taken through the Board’s expectations of a free and fair exercise, as well as the health protocols they need to enforce at the polling stations in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have learnt about what is expected of us. Our expectation is that we will conduct a free, fair, credible and transparent election,” said Charles Yogo, a returning officer who is part of the exercise.
The Board has sought the help of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), who will offer Technical Support to the process.
“We felt it was neccesary to involve IEBC who will provide Technical support to our returning officers,” said Board Chairperson Kentice Tikolo.
“We have elections in 21 counties. There have been more aspirants subjecting themselves to the process, and in my opinion, it is a vote of confidence,” she added.
Meanwhile, Kisii County Branch Chairmanship aspirant Jezreel Mbegera has revealed his three main agendas should he be elected branch chairman in tomorrow’s repeat elections.
Mbegera who is a businessman and a football enthusiast, boasts of a great network of friends in the private and public sectors as well as abroad.
He told People Sport that he banks on his wide network of friends to attract sponsors that he hopes will come on board and support his agendas of transforming football in the county.
