Bandani’s slow return to FKF Division One
Coming off a tough 2017 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Division Two, Bandani’s return to the same league this season, is all but reason for optimism.
In 2017, Bandani in their debut season, managed seven wins and similar draws but lost 14 out of 28 matches to finish 12th on the 15-team log, scoring 24 goals and conceded 30, in the process suffering relegation.
However, the current season might be a breakthrough for the Kisumu West Sub County-based side as they currently sit at the helm of the FKF National Division Two Central Zone Pool C table standings.
John Odipo’s side are on a roll in the league, having won all their six matches in the 2019 league phase and assistant team manager Kevin Jamal is optimistic, the community based side is positioning itself to becoming the pride of the sub-county.
“Bandani is a community based football team from Kisumu county, Kisumu West sub county. We conduct our training at the Kisumu International Airport ground but host our home games at the Molasses Grounds. The team is managed by Anthony Alila and coached Odipo (pictured) and Nicholas Obora,” Jamal introduces the club’s history.
Formed by late coach Albert Emali in 2012, the team is currently managed by Jamal and Anthony. The team has struggled through the ranks from District to County (emerging second in Kisumu County last season) and prides itself as being one of the only two teams in Kisumu West in Division Two.
