Bandari now scouting for goal scorers after fifth loss
Lack of out and out striker has been described as the bane of the dwindling fortunes by Bandari in the 2019/2020 Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
Bandari Manager Wilson Oburu said the team has been undone by the deficiency of a lethal finisher even as he pointed out that scoring chances are being created but are going to waste. This leaves the future of their forwards led by bully goal getter Wycliff Ochomo in doubt ahead of next month’s transfer window.
“There has been profligacy on the part of our strikers and this is what the technical bench officials have has been trying to work on,’’ said Oburu.
On the flip side, Oburu said the front-runners are adventurous only that their frailty is failure to put the ball at the back of the net.
“I would be worried if we are not creating chances, but those shouldered with the responsibility of breaching opponents defense lines need to be sharper otherwise the rest of the departments are up to scratch,’’ said Oburu.
Oburu made the remarks after watching his team extended its rough patch in the KPL after losing 1-0 to Tusker in Ruaraka at the weekend.
During the match, Bandari strikers William Wadri, Ochomo and Benjamin Mosha heaved and puffed in search of goals in vain aqs it became clear that the team missed Congolese Yema Mwana and Salim Abdallah both who are on the injury list.
Oburu later hinted that the technical bench is on the process of signing a striker and an offensuive midfielder during the June transfer ostensibly for the team to exorcise the ghosts of going five matches without a win.
In the meantime, after 12th round of action at the weekend, Gor Mahia continued enjoying ascendancy in the league despite a barren draw with Ulinzi Stars in a highly physical match.
Gor are at 25 points followed by Tusker with a point less with the ale-men also doing themselves a big favour by outsmarting Bandari in a match played under atrocious pitch conditions in Ruaraka.
However, it was a seven-goal thriller that ignited the weekend, Kenya Commercial bank (KCB) dispatching Kariobangi Sharks to leapfrog Ulinzi Stars to the third position in the league chart.
Sharks and KCB shared four goals in the first half before the latter turned the game on its head in the second stanza, Enock Agwanda, Samuel Mwangi and Reagan Okwiri each helping himself with a goal.
At Mumias Complex, AFC Leopards ‘rose from the dead’ to restrict Nzoia Sugar to a 2-2 draw in a result which saw the big cats maintain their sixth position in the chart.
