Nairobi City Stars and Nairobi Stima have pulled clear of their rivals Bidco United and Vihiga United after picking important wins in round 17 of Betika Super League action yesterday.

City Stars now have 43 points after beating lowly St Joseph’s Youth 2-0 at Camp Toyoyo while Nairobi Stima were impressive away at Mumias Complex after humbling Vihiga United 2-1 yesterday.

Bidco are third on the log with 35 points after seeing off APS Bomet 3-1 at home whereas fourth-placed Vihiga United are on 34 points with a game in hand.

Nairobi Stima, under Leonard Odipo, had captain Joseph Shikokoti and Michael Onyango to thank for the victory as they scored on each side of the half to help their side stay second on the log with 37 points.

An elated Odipo is now hoping the momentum will be sustained. “It’s about staying consistent in the subsequent matches since as the competition moves, it becomes challenging so we must be vigilant,” Odipo told People Sport after the match.

At Camp Toyoyo, Dennis Agesa and skipper Anthony Kimani were the toast for leaders City Stars who kept their match towards a return to the Kenya Premier League on course while fourth-placed Bidco came from behind to thump APS Bomet 3-1 at Thika Stadium.

At Mbaraki Sports Club, it was raining goals as hosts Coast Stima took advantage of Kenya Police’s troubles to spank them 7-0 with Eric Ombija netting a massive five goals.

Things turned from bad to worse for the law enforcers as they eded the match with nine men after two players pulled out with muscle problems.

Meanwhile, struggling FC Talanta drew 1-1 with Administration Police as Shabana threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1 to visiting Mt Kenya United at Gusi Stadium.
