FKF boss urges clubs to ignore politics
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) yesterday prevailed upon clubs to disregard what he described as sideshows which have infiltrated the governance of the game in the country and concentrate on playing football.
FKF president Nick Mwendwa made the clarion even as he told off “shenanigans in power-jostling (who) have no place in Kenyan football and asked the clubs to treat them with contempt.
“You should not be distracted by the thinly veiled attacks on the federation by insurgents.
Yours is only to play football and let what is happening not sink into your heads,’’ said Mwendwa apparently in reference to the stand-off between FKF and rebels who won big on Tuesday when the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) cancelled the federation’s elections initially set for tomorrow over a number of illegalities.
He advised clubs to concentrate on attracting sponsors through discpline and display of high standards.
“You should play to the best of your ability and this way, you are bound to attract sponsors,” added Mwendwa minutes after FKF sealed a sponsorship deal with betting firm OdiBets at a Nairobi hotel.
Mwendwa further pointed out that as the federation supremo, he is not interested in turf wars and would rather concentrate on his duties of developing the game and especially to ensure national teams do well in forthcoming international assignments.
Meanwhile, FKF officials elected during the branch polls held on November 27, which the tribunal termed null and void, has expressed mixed reactions.
Caleb Malweyi, who was elected chairman of FKF Nairobi West branch, said while there were some flaws which needs rectification, he will abide by the ruling.
