FKF claims to have paid French coach Migne Sh12m
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) yesterday admitted to be owing former Harambee Stars head coach, Frenchman Sebastian Migne Sh4 million, but attributed cause of the balance to the current coronavirus pandemic that has hit the sport hard globally.
According to a reliable source at the federation, the coach who currently coaches Equatorial Guinea’s national team, has so far received Sh12 million out of a possible Sh 16 million according to a mutual termination agreement he signed with the federation last year.
“Last week he was paid Sh2 million and he had initially been paid Sh10 million , so that leaves the federation with Sh4 million of his according to our agreement,” said the source.
FKF president Nick Mwendwa did not confirm or deny the figures, but admitted they had the coach’s balance which they had laid plans of settling by April before the current pandemic struck.
Despite delivering Kenya to last year’s Afcon, the Frenchman was dismissed just a week after Kenya was bundled out of the CHAN qualifiers by Tanzania after losing 4-1 on post-match penalties after both legs had ended in a barren draw.
And on Monday he said in an interview on Switch Television that he was planning to report the federation to Fifa for not paying his dues.
“I am actually shocked by what I have been reading, because we have never had any disputes with Migne and he has not complained to us,” Mwendwa told People Sport.
He added: “In fact, there is no coach that has been handled the way Migne has been, because even after parting ways, we still agreed to give him a house for his family, a car, a driver and salary until end of March 2020.”
It is believed that the federation was paying a monthly rent of Sh250, 000 for the coach’s family until the end of March when they decided to travel to their native France due to the current pandemic and they also enjoyed the services of a full time car and driver courtesy of the federation, despite the fact that he was coaching Equatorial Guinea.
According to the termination agreement in our possession, FKF was to pay Migne a monthly net salary of Sh2 million until March 2020, so long as he had no other coaching job. However, he landed the Equatorial Guinea job in October 2019.
“FKF and the coach agreed that if before 7/04/2020, the coach finds a new job with a monthly salary lower than Sh 2 million net, FKF shall continue to make all the payment as agreed on Clause 4,” read Clause 6 of the agreement.
It added: “If the coach finds a new job before 7/04/2020 with a net monthly salary higher than Sh2 million, then FKF shall not make further payments to the coach as from the date the coach enters into the new job agreement.
