Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential hopeful Herbert Mwachiro believes the  sport will blossom only if it is  well packaged.

The renowned sports marketer and football commentator, who has served in FKF before as the Deputy CEO, told a local radio station at the weekend that if elected to the top office, among his priorities would be to sell a product that would continuously attract sponsors.

He accused the current administration of failing to strengthen branches in the country which are the anchor of football.

“We all know and understand that football today is big business and what is needed for that to be sustained is to package the commodity properly.

As a marketer, I know I can fix that aspect so that we can make our game more visible and attractive. I have a plan and together with like-minded lovers of the game, we will implement it.

My experience and networks over the years tells me that I can make a difference. For me, this can be achieved if we deploy proper governance structures which is what I have vouched for a lot,” said the 50-year-old.

Mwachiro, said he has a proper plan to unseat his former boss and believes he can build on the base that has been set even as he also promised to divorce football from politics.

“From the days past, I think the current office of Nick Mwendwa has done well despite challenges but there are still things I believe have been lacking especially in empowering women’s football and grassroots development.

I want to go in and improve the image and professionalism in the game so that fans can have faith again. We just need to cut politics out and be accountable so that we grow,” he added.

The St Marys alumnus, who was also in charge of Kenya’s failed bid to host the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, currently serves in the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance Sports committees.
