Harambee Stars end Afcon campaign with consolation win against Togo

It was a case of too little too late for the national football team Harambee Stars when they beat Togo 2-1 in Lome, to end their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group G qualifying campaign on a high note.
Though the match had no significance even if Stars won 20-0, since both teams stood no chance of qualifying for the continental showpiece, it would be a morale booster for the Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee-coached side since Stars have a poor away record.
The last away qualifying match Harambee Stars has won was almost two decades.
The comprehensive win will also see them leap in the next Fifa World Rankings.
In Group G, they finish third on seven points having won one, drew four and lost one.
Bandari’s Abdallah Hassan continued with his goal scoring form for the national team, taking his tally to six when he broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a looped goal after a solo run.
Masoud Juma added the tally in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, before Henri Eninful scored a consolation goal for the home side.
Mulee started without the services of star striker Michael Olunga, first choice custodian Ian Otieno, midfielder Lawrence Juma and defender Joash Onyango who are alleged to have tested positive for Covid 19 before the match.
