Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will conduct its elections before the end of the year under a strict code that is likely to enable its president Nick Mwendwa retain the seat unopposed.

The code raises very high standards for those wishing to contest for the top post requiring among other things to have a running mate and pay a Sh400,000 nomination fee.

Delegates unanimously approved the code during the seventh Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Nairobi Safari Park Hotel and attended by all FKF delegates except Ambrose Rachier who is Gor Mahia and KPL clubs chairman, Western Stima boss Laban Jobita and Nakuru East MP who is also NEC Member Central Rift David Gikaria.

Speaking during the meeting, Mwendwa said the code was expected to help bring in good managers.

“We have had a lot of problems in the federation in the past and this code is meant to address those challenges,” he said.

The meeting also approved an electoral board to be headed by university don Edwin Wamukoya who also serves as FKF CAF Clubs Licensing chairman.

Other members are Eunice Lumallasa, Abdi Said, Ellyna Shiveka and Robert Nyakundi.

The electoral rules have not gone down well with some of the contestants, however. Former FKF boss Sam Nyamweya, who has not declared if he will vie, voiced his displeasure at the rules last month as well as former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga and ex-FKF NEC Member for Nyanza Tom Alila who have thrown their hats in the ring.

The delegates also approved the federation’s budget for next year estimated to be more than Sh1billion.
