Nairobi City Stars open five-point gap, Murang’a win
Nairobi City Stars opened a five-point lead at the top of the National Super League standings following a 3-2 win over Kenya Police at Karuturi Stadium yesterday.
This is following unexpected losses to the immediate challengers Bidco United and Nairobi Stima 24 hours earlier.
At 19 points after seven matches, the Kawangware-based side are the early pace setters in the race to return to the Kenyan Premier League from which they were relegated in 2016.
Veteran midfielder Anthony ‘Muki’ Kimani put a smile on City Stars coach Sanjin Alagic’s face when he drilled home an extra time winner after it had looked like the match was ending 2-2 draw.
Ebrimma Sanneh and Abdalla Salim were the other scorers for City Stars while the law enforcers, who have just two points, had Arvine Odongo and James Gachoka on the scoresheet.
At Camp Toyoyo grounds, Muranga Seal returned to winning ways with a 3-0 thumping of league newcomers Northern Wanderers who are yet to pick a point after seven matches.
Two goals in the first half by Kelvin Ayim and Oscar Livondo put pressure on Wanderers, who have soaked in 28 goals while scoring just six. John Kiplangat scored the third in the 63rd minute with a neat finish inside the 18-yard area.
Meanwhile, Administration Police and Vihiga United played to a 1-1 draw at the same venue in a feisty encounter.
