Owosu relishing Sofapaka challenge
Ghanaian prodigy George Owosu who joined Sofapaka on Friday is being seen as the saving grace to a front-line that has plundered less than 25 goals since the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) kicked off.
Owosu, a graduate of Accra-based Chaniss Academy and who was one of the 11 new players unveiled by Sofapaka in Nairobi last week, has made his intentions known barely few days before donning the Batoto Ba Mungu’s jersey in his maiden appearance in KPL.
“Since I came here, I have been impressed by the work ethic displayed by players and I cannot wait to be part of it. Of course, I do not expect things to be any easy but I’m confident my input will help reshape the team’s campaign in the top tier league,” said the pint-sized striker.
Since Sofapaka lost Umaru Kasumba and Stephen Waruru to Zambia’s Zesco United and KPL side Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) respectively last year and since then, Batoto have been struggling to put the ball in the back of the net.
Owusu is by and large believed to be the man who shall unravel the jigsaw puzzle.
This school of thought is supported by the fact that the 23-year-old has previously turned out for some of the most polished youth teams in Europe among them FK Zupar of Bosnia.
Owosu’s manager Prince Channis, who is the brains behind Channis Academy, has described the youngster as a shining star who has a lot to offer to Sofapaka.
“In Bosnia, the lad has been scoring goals almost at will and I expect him to replicate the same at Sofapaka.
Kenyan football has grown in stature over the last few years and I hope that playing here will serve as a spring board for him to Ghana’s senior national team (Black Stars),’’ said Channis.
