Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards are on the verge of losing one of their star players as striker Elvis Rupia keen to complete a move outside the country.

Rupia, who signed a short contract with Leopards after being released by Wazito FC in the mid season transfer window, was instrumental to Ingwe especially after the departure of key marksman John Makwatta to Zambia but it now looks like coach Anthony Kimani will have to do without him.

A source familiar with the developments told People Sport that Leopards have been negotiating with the former Nzoia Sugar striker over his continued stay but it seems he is not keen to play in the Kenyan Premier League.

Rupia is understood to be close to finalising a move to a club in Middle East, forcing  Leopards to seek immediate replacement.

It is also believed that youngsters Collins Shichenje, Musa Saad and winger Jaffer Awiti are edging closer to an exit as they are finalise moves to Europe.

“The team will not stand in the way of any player who is seeking greener pastures.

We will do our part so long as the process is conducted in the right way. Some of these players had trials with top clubs in Europe and have convinced their suitors.

We want to wish them all the best in their endeavours,” said the source who sought anonymity.

Transform Ingwe

“We are very much active in the market to see new reinforcements both locally and outside the country. We are eyeing more than six players depending on the recommendation of the technical bench.

We have already identified our targets and opened negotiations but it’s still too early to reveal their locations and also their names because everything is still at the initial stages,” added the source.

It is believed the Dan Shikanda-led Leopards are narrowing on star players  plying their trade abroad as the club chairman continues his vision of transforming Ingwe into a great team that can challenge for titles again.
