St Angela Sengera Girls and Tendere Boys snatched all titles available during this year’s Gucha Sub County Secondary School Term One Games held at Tendere grounds on Wednesday.

Sengera retained their hockey titles before reigning supreme in basketball and handball while hosts Tendere successfully defended their basketball crown before triumphing in handball.

The victory saw the two schools earn tickets to this year’s Kisii County Secondary School Term One games slated between March 4 and 7 at Kisii School.

At the county championship, Sengera will be eyeing a maiden county handball title as they seek to stop perennial winners Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi Kegati Girls, who have won the last four, from extending their dominance.

Sengera coach Josiah Emitati is keen to right last year’s wrongs after they were eliminated at the sub-county level by the now dethroned Itare Girls.

“We have achieved our first goal of the year and our focus now is the county championship.

We want to perform better than we did last year and I am full of optimism that we are going to triumph,” Emitati told People Sport yesterday.

“We are determined to go all the way as we eye the regional games and possibly make it to the nationals,” he added.

In the finals, Sengera comfortably beat Gakero ELCK Girls 17-4, taking the title from Itare Girls.

They had clobbered Buyonge Girls 11-0 while Gakero ELCK Girls had to dig deep to knock out unrelenting Bombaba Girls 5-4 in the semi-finals.

Tendere, meanwhile, were forced to toil for victory against hard-fighting Gakero ELCK Boys to emerge champions.

Not ready to go down without a fight, Gakero stretched Tendere to the limit but the latter’s quality was too much for them as they finally bowed out after losing 5-4 in what was an entertaining final.

Tendere had sailed through to the finals courtesy of an 8-6 win over Nyamonyo in the first semi-final while Gakero ELCK dismissed Kebere 11-3 to secure a place in the finals.
