‘Shepolopolo’ jet in for Starlets’ Olympic tie

Zambia’s women national football team ‘Shepolopolo’ arrived in the country for their Olympics qualifying match against their Kenyan counterparts, Harambee Starlets, at Kasarani Stadium tomorrow.

Star strikers Rachael Kundanaji and team-mate Misozi Zulu, who ply their trade with BIIK Kazygurt of Kazakhstan, are part of the 26-member squad that touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly after 10.00 am yesterday. Shepolopolo subdued Cosafa neighbours Botswana 3-0 on aggregate in the third round of the qualifying series without the services of the duo.

Head coach Bruce Mwape also added Logrono’s Barbara Banda, while leaving out Avel Chitundu for Prisca Chilufya in the squad made up of four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, six midfielders and six strikers.

The 2019 Cosafa Women’s Cup finalists will be seeking for an outright win to make the return match at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka a mere formality.

The match will be crucial in determining who gains advantage ahead of the reverse fixture in Zambia.
