Sony Sugar to be relegated if they give another walk-over: Oguda

Struggling Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Sony Sugar will be relegated if they give another walk over.

This was announced today by KPL Chief Executive Officer Jack Oguda who said the rules of the game were clear.

The Awendo side has already given two walk-overs, first to AFC Leopards on October 5 at Awendo Stadium then on October 19 to Bandari in a match that had been scheduled for Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.

If they fail to honour their next match which is against debutants Kisumu All Stars on Saturday, then their fate would have been sealed as it would be the third walk-over.

According to KPL rules, a club will be fined Sh500,000 for giving one walkover, Sh1 million for issuing a second walkover and Sh1.5 million for three walkovers which comes with a further penalty of relegation to the second tier.

“The rules have not changed and a third walkover will mean Sony Sugar are relegated to the National Super League (NSL).

All teams unanimously agreed, during the governing council meeting, that here will be no changes in fixtures too,” confirmed KPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Oguda.
