Gogo Boys clinch first Betika Battle for Super Cup

Kibera-based Gogo Boys hammered 2011 Sakata Ball Western region champions Mugai FC 4-0 to win the inaugural Betika Battle of the Super Cup challenge at Woodley grounds at the weekend.

The tournament, sponsored by Kenya’s leading gaming fi rm, Betika, pitted winners of the Kriss Darlin Super Cup in Nairobi and champions of the Karamoja Super Cup in Kakamega County.

During the match, Kelvin Senya intercepted a poor clearance by Mugai defense to beat advancing goalkeeper Bob Cetric in the second to open the fl oodgates.

John Macharia doubled the score with a 25 yard shot which beat Cetric in the 48th minute before Hillary Shirao added from the spot 10 minutes later after John Muyekho handled in the box for the centre referee Badir Yassin to award a penalty.

Joseph Masinde nodded the ball home to seal Mugai’s fate after connecting with a freekick in the 60th minute.

Gogo Boys FC pocketed Sh250,000 and a trophy with the Mugai going home with Sh100,000. Betika brand manager Eric Mwiti the fi rm will continue investing in the youth by nurturing their talent through sport and arts.

“We are happy with what Betika Na Community is doing to transform the lives of our youth. Sport has a unique power to celebrate our common humanity. We therefore intend to continue supporting the community teams and help them reach league levels,” said Mwiti.

He added, “We also call upon other industry players and sports stakeholders to join us in growing sports in Kenya,” said Mwiti. Betika’s sponsorship included travel, accommodation, Covid tests before the games and kits.
