Gor Mahia’s winless run in the BetKing Premier League finally came to an end yesterday after they beat Bidco United 3-1.

Goals by Wilson Silva, Kenneth Muguna and  Clifton Miheso were enough to move K’Ogalo to seventh on the log on 22 points after 14 matches.

Peter Nzuki scored the only goal for Bidco United who are ninth in the log

The second half saw K’Ogalo press forward and looking livelier when on the ball. Macharia and Muguna were dangerous on short and quick balls that opened up the Bidco spaces.

Silva was also holding up play allowing Miheso and Kareem to come forward often.

It did not come as a surprise when a quick move orchestrated by Burkinabe international Abdul Kareem released  Miheso on the left who then crossed to a well positioned Silva for the second in the 60th minute.

Muguna extended K’Ogalo’s lead in the 84th minute even as  Bidco made unsuccessful substitutions with Gor Mahia finally winning after 270 minutes.

Coach Carols Manuel Vaz Pinto was happy with his charges’ work.  “It is a huge relief and I am glad the players gave their best.

Meanwhile, five of the seven matches in the programme last weekend ended in draws which lends credence to the fact that the top tier league is increasingly becoming competitive.

But of all the stalemates recorded, the 1-1 between KCB and basement side Zoo Kericho at Utalii grounds was the most surprising.

Second placed KCB, who alongside table-toppers Tusker and third placed AFC Leopards are red-hot favourites for the title, were expected to steamroll Zoo but found the Kericho side a hard nut to crack.

KCB, however, can take pride in that they have a match in hand over Tusker and can bridge a three point gap over the leaders assuming they bag maximum points in the fixture.

As things stand, Tusker are still in the driving seat at 36 points with KCB six points adrift in the second position followed by AFC Leopards (29), Kariobangi Sharks (28), Bandari (27), Wazito (25), Bidco United (21) and City Stars (20).

At the weekend, Leopards drew 0-0 with Vihiga United as Wazito were held 2-2 by Bandari with Tusker and City Stars settling for a similar score.
