Gor Mahia secured the top spot in the FKF Premier League standings following a 2-1 victory against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, marking a milestone for Head Coach Johnathan McKinstry.

McKinstry celebrated his 50th match in charge, boasting an impressive record of 29 wins, 16 draws, and only five losses.

Gor Mahia challenges

Reflecting on his tenure at the club the coach pointed at a lean squad, bans, and reduced budgets as major challenges at the club.

"When I arrived in Nairobi on August 22, the Gor Mahia Chairman told me I was joining at the most challenging period of the club's recent history. A lean squad, transfer ban & operating with a reduced budget," McKinstry stated on his X account.

Expressing his delight in winning the league and FKF Shield with the sixth youngest squad, McKinstry highlighted a win percentage of 58% and a remarkable 14-game unbeaten run that propelled them to the top spot.

"50 matches later, we have won 2 of the 3 trophies available. This has been done with the 6th youngest squad in the FKF PL, achieving a winning ratio of 58%, and undefeated ratio of 90% over those 50 matches; once again finding ourselves in 1st position on the table, enjoying a run of 14 games unbeaten in all competitions," he added.

Gor Mahia improvements

Comparing Gor Mahia's previous 50 matches with the current ones, McKinstry pointed out substantial improvements in the number of wins, reduced losses, goals conceded, increased goals scored, and more clean sheets.

"When compared to the immediately previous 50 games, the results of everyone's hard work can really be seen. Number of Wins & Clean Sheets both improved by 53%. Number of Defeats have reduced by 58% Whilst Goals Scored have increased by 45%, & Goals Conceded reduced by 31%," he emphasized.

Looking ahead, McKinstry urged club officials and players to build on the foundation laid over the last 16 months to achieve even greater results in the future.

"Moving forward, the challenge now for officials, staff and players is to use the foundation that has been laid over the last 16 months to progress further and achieve even greater results over not only the next 50 matches but for many years to come," he concluded.
