Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry expressed his belief that Nzoia Sugar should have finished their match with 10 men after a tackle by Shariff Ali on Rooney Onyango in the 35th minute.

Despite Nzoia Sugar ultimately losing 3-1 and ending the game with 11 men, McKinstry argued that Ali's challenge warranted a red card, as it was studs up to the back of Onyango's ankle with no intention to play the ball.

He emphasized that Onyango was fortunate not to have suffered a broken ankle, though the extent of his injury would only be clear once the swelling subsided.

"I think it should have 10 men for the opposition. Look the center referee is the best referee in Kenya and everyone makes mistakes. When you watch the back tackle on Rooney Onyango in the first half it was really bad.

"It is studs up to the back of the ankle, no attempt to play the ball, vicious. And should be a red card. Rooney is lucky not to break his ankle, he has ice on it we do not know how serious it is we will see once the swell comes down," McKinstry told Gor Mahia TV.

In the match, Daniel Simiyu initially gave Nzoia Sugar the lead, but Gor Mahia responded with goals from Shariff Musa and Benson Omala, securing the victory. McKinstry made tactical changes during the game, with Bryson Wangai and Erick Masika being replaced by Christopher Ochieng and Rodgers Omondi respectively.

This win was crucial for Gor Mahia, as it helped them maintain their position at the top of the league table with 54 points, showcasing their dominance in the league under McKinstry's guidance.
