Gor Mahia fined Sh1.5m for Keita’s wrongful dismissal

Record Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC has once again landed in the bad books of world football governing body FIFA following a salary dispute with one of its former players.

FIFA has ordered the club to pay Malian goalkeeper, Adama Keita Shs 1,011,750 plus five per cent interest for each month over breach of contract that prompted the player to leave the club in a huff.

The payment must be made within 45 days lest K’Ogalo be banned from signing players in the near future. Gor are already on another ban by FIFA arising from contractual fallouts with ex-players. The decision of the Dispute Resolution Chamber stated in part: “The claim of the Claimant, Adama Keita, is partially accepted. The Respondent, Gor Mahia FC, has to pay to the Claimant the following amounts: a) Sh 29,967.50 (USD 250) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum, as from January 1, 2022 until the date of effective payment; b) Sh 191,792.00 ( USD 1,600) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum as from 1 February 2022 until the date of effective payment; c) Sh 191,792.00 (USD 1,600) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum as from 1 March 2022 until the date of effective payment.”

Additionally, Keita was awarded- Sh 191,792.00 (USD 1,600) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum backdated from April 1, 2022 until the date of effective payment; e) USD 1,600 (Sh 191,792.00) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum backdated from May 1, 2022 until the date of effective payment; f) USD 1,600 (Sh 191,792.00) as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum as from 1 June 2022 until the date of effective payment; g) Sh 30,000 as outstanding bonuses plus 5% interest per annum as from 24 May 2022 until the date of effective payment.

The 32 year old Adama who joined K’Ogalo in August,2021,has formerly been attached to Malian top tier sides Djoliba AC and CIK.
