Football Kenya Federation has directed that no fans will be allowed in Sunday, October 24’s fixture between Gor Mahia and Al Ahly Merowe at Nyayo stadium.

FKF says they have been forced to make the decision after they failed to get approval from the African football governing body Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“Regrettably the federation has not received any feedback from the African football governing body as such and in consultation with Gor Mahia FC and sports stadia decided that tomorrow's Confederations Cup fixture between Gor Mahia and Al Ahly Merowe will be played behind closed doors with no fans,” a statement by FKF read.

The new development comes after the Ministry of Health and that of Sports gave the home team a green light to allow fans in the stadia for the much-awaited mouth-watering fixture.

"Up to 10,000 fans to be allowed to watch our second leg CAF match against Al Ahly set for Sunday at Nyayo Stadium after Ministry of Health accepted club's request and Federation also approved," a statement by Gor read.

Gor completed a second-half comeback to defeat Al Ahly Merowe of Sudan 3-1 in the first round at the New Suez Stadium in Egypt on Friday night.

The game was played in Egypt because the Sudanese club did not have any approved stadia in its country.
