Gor Mahia unveil Sportpesa as official sponsors

Gor Mahia FC have announced the return of Sportpesa as their official sponsors ahead of the new FKF Premier League season.

In a deal confirmed by both parties, the sponsorship is set to run till 2025. The three-year deal is worth Sh240 million, meaning the club will get kshs 80 Million per season.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said they were eyeing a fruitful partnership just like the first deal was.

"It's a good feeling to have a partner like SportPesa... We are indeed pleased to have them back and we are looking for a fruitful partnership all through the contract period. I remember with a lot of nostalgia the great days of our partnership with SportPesa. Welcome back," he said during the unveiling.

Thrilled to be back

Sportpesa noted in their announcement that they are thrilled to be back as Gor Mahia sponsors and are look forward to more victories and greater heights.

"Merging of the Giants! We are delighted to announce that SportPesa and @OfficialGMFC have today entered a partnership," Sportpesa announced.

"Welcome back boys, to more wins & greater heights," the statement further adds.

Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri on his part said: "We welcome back home our former partner Gor Mahia. In our previous years of engagement, we achieved a lot of firsts, shattering the ceiling on what is achievable in our local football scene."

The deal between Gor and Sportpesa comes days after the latter confirmed to have terminated their shirt sponsorship deal with gaming firm Betafriq.

The deal with Betafriq was worth Sh229m and was to run for three years.

Sportpesa returns after recently confirming to have been give the license to operate ahead of the 2022/23 financial year.

Due to the failure to resolve a long-standing tax issue with the Kenya Revenue Authority, the company ceased operations in Kenya in October 2019 and terminated deals with Kenyan Giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

SportPesa a sponsored Gor and AFC Leopards from 2016 for Sh65 million and Sh45 million per season, respectively, but the deal was discontinued in 2018.
