Harambee Stars name Mandela in starting squad against South Sudan

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has made one change to his starting squad for the match against South Sudan at Moi International Stadium at 4:00 pm.

The changes seeing Brian Mandela come into the starting squad to replace absent Johnstone Omurwa.

In central defence, Mandela will partner with Joseph Okumu to form a formidable defensive duo. The fullback positions will be manned by Dennis Anyembe and Eric Ouma.

In the midfield, the coach has chosen to retain Richard Odada, Anthony Akumu, and Kenneth Muguna, providing stability and experience in the middle of the pitch.

Upfront, the attacking lineup will feature Masud Juma, Elvis Rupia, and Captain Michael Olunga, who will lead the charge for goals.

Harambee Stars are heading into these matches with confidence, having recently secured a 2-1 victory over Qatar in an international friendly played on September 7, 2023, at the Al Janoub Stadium.

The scoring began in the 20th minute when Kenneth Muguna delivered a precise corner kick into the box, finding the head of Joseph Okumu, who skillfully nodded it into the net, giving Kenya the lead.

Qatar managed to equalize in the 34th minute when Hassan Al-Haydos successfully converted a penalty kick.

Harambee Stars tactical changes

In the second half, Harambee Stars made tactical substitutions. In the 46th minute, Ayub Timbe came on for Elvis Rupia, injecting fresh energy into the team. Later, in the 70th minute, Amos Nondi was introduced, replacing Masud Juma.

As the match approached its conclusion, Harambee Stars displayed their determination. In the 86th minute, Duke Abuya substituted Kenneth Muguna.

Then, in the 91st minute, Captain Olunga orchestrated a brilliant assist to Amos Nondi, who scored the winning goal, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Harambee Stars are preparing for the upcoming World Cup qualifier matches, hoping to continue their winning momentum and advance in the tournament.
