Equity Hawks were ruthless as they beat Strathmore Swords 54 – 41 yesterday during the ladies’ basketball premier league match played at Nyayo Gymnasium.

Strathmore’s Faith Sanne was the game’s top scorer with 19 points including three penalty baskets. On the other hand, the eventual winners, Equity had Shani Silale shining with her own 18 points to boost the score for the Bankers.

The opening quarter was fairly open and evenly balanced for both teams as they sized each other up. The Equity Hawks got to their groove with time moving the ball around with ease.

However, the match was to a large extent held up by technical fouls which the Hawks took advantage of to convert.

The first quarter was a contest of both ends; a contrast to the third which was dominated by the Hawks.

Equity Coach Sylvia Kamau was full of praise for her charges whom she described as resilient.

“We started shakily but as the game progressed, we were on top of things and settled well. Congratulations to the players who showed character today,” she said.

Meanwhile, in an earlier encounter, Swords outplayed Scarlet 60-45 thanks to the input of Saroon Wereda.

Coach Ronny Owino was animated on the touchline issuing instructions to her players who ensured their mistakes were minimal. The opening quarter went 19-06 to Swords while the second was a tight 15-14. One of the key players for Sword in the match was Sylvia Oundo who contributed 14 points for her team.
